Austria remains the biggest market for skis in Europe, with a share of 28 percent, followed by France and Germany (both with a share of 22 percent), and by Italy and Switzerland (both with a share of 14 percent). Austria is also the country with the largest consumption of ski bindings, representing 29 percent of the European market, followed by France (23 percent), by Germany (19 percent), by Switzerland (15 percent) and by Italy (14 percent). Yet, France is now the largest market for ski boots, with a share of 33 percent, followed by Germany (20 percent), Austria (19 percent), and Italy and Switzerland (both with 14 percent of the total consumption). These were some of the findings of the study conducted annually by the Ski Committee of Fesi, the European Sporting Goods Industry Federation, since 2002. A total of 17 brands were involved in the study in 2010, up from only 13 in 2009. Nevertheless, the data they collected seems to confirm a slight increase in total sales of skis in the 2010/11 season to an indicative level of 3.5 million pairs, which was evidently due to better snow conditions at the time.
