Bauer Performance Sports' revenues for the second quarter ended last Nov. 30 grew by 7 percent to $117.1 million, with a 9 percent increase in local currencies. Sales of ice hockey equipment were up by 0.8 percent on a comparable basis. In contrast, sales of apparel grew by 59.6 percent thanks to the addition of uniforms for hockey and soccer and to increases of 20.7 percent in off-ice team clothing and 27.6 percent in lifestyle garments. Sales of lacrosse products went up by 14.3 percent. Geographically, total sales rose by 9.4 percent in North America but decreased by 1.6 percent in the rest of the world, due at least in part to currency exchange rates. The gross margin for the quarter fell to 33.8 percent from 36.2 percent a year earlier because of the new uniforms and air-freight charges, but the adjusted net income increased by 2.7 percent to $7.5 million.
