Blacks Leisure is looking for a new chairman. The struggling British sports retailer announced yesterday that David Bernstein had decided to resign as chairman and director of the company, with immediate effect, although he had received more than 78 percent of the proxy votes at the annual general meeting last July 27 in favor of his re-election. A statement by the company said he was motivated by the fact that “the challenges faced by the business in such a difficult trading environment require a unified shareholder base supporting the strategy developed by the board.” Bernstein has been on Blacks' board since 1995 and became chairman in 2001.
