Komodo Pickleball says its new Bioball eats away at “pickleball mountain” from two sides.
The company cites research that the world manufactures 500 million pickleballs per year, which in turn yield an annual 77 million pounds of plastic in landfills. Hence pickleball mountain.
The so-called Bioball reduces both the number of pickleballs players need and the time nature needs to break it down. It is, Komodo claims, both five times as durable and 20 times as biodegradable as the traditional ball. In absolute terms, it will last 70 games and break down in three to five years, rather than a century.

According to The Dink, through whose review we discovered it, the Bioball will indeed generally hold up for 70 games “without cracking or warping,” and provides “a similar hardness with a touch more playability” than certain tournament balls.
Komodo adds that the BioBall has received approval from the sport’s American national governing body, USA Pickleball.
It is available in boxes of eight ($28.97) or a dozen ($39.97) in one-off purchase and at a discount of about 15 percent for those who subscribe for monthly or bimonthly delivery.
