Calvin McDonald, who has spent the last five years as president and chief executive of Sephora in the Americas, has been appointed as Lululemon Athletica's chief executive from Aug. 20. Lululemon said that Sephora, the perfume and cosmetics retailer in the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton group, delivered double-digit growth under McDonald's leadership, with widened product offerings, new digital platforms and store experiences, and expansion in more markets, including Brazil and Mexico. Prior to joining Sephora in 2013, McDonald spent two years as president and chief executive of Sears Canada, after about 17 years at Loblaw Companies, the largest retailer in Canada. The Lululemon chief executive's seat was previously occupied for about four years by Laurent Potdevin, who drove significant investment and growth at the Canadian sportswear group. He abruptly left in February, with the company saying that he fell short of its standards of conduct. While the board searched for a replacement, the operations were guided by Celeste Burgoyne, Stuart Haselden and Sun Choe, who will report to McDonald. Glenn Murphy, who had become executive chairman during the transition, returns to serving as non-executive chairman of the board. McDonald will become a member of Lululemon's board of directors. The company will release its results for the second quarter of its fiscal year on Aug. 30.
