According to CMDsport, Intersport Spain will be moving out of its headquarters in the city of Rubí, in the province of Barcelona, on Nov. 19. The buying group inaugurated the site in 1989 and has now sold it, for some $5 million, to an as yet unnamed investment fund. It consists of 6,500 square meters in offices and warehouses set on 13,500 square meters of buildable land. The new owners will purportedly be turning the site into a logistics hub. On Nov. 22 Intersport Spain will be moving into its third headquarters: 1,000 square meters of rented attic space in the business park of nearby Sant Cugat del Vallès, across from a mall where Decathlon, Base and Décimas operate stores. The company’s CEO, Oriol Tomás, ackowledged in an interview with CMDsport back in July that business had been tough at the height of the lockdowns. “There are problems,” he said, “but there are also solutions” – two of them, to be specific: inventory reduction, on the one hand, and refinancing or recapitalization, on the other. The sale of the headquarters fits into the second option and has been under way for the past few months. The proceeds are to help fund a two-year strategic plan and streamline operations between suppliers and retail partners. The company has also raised €265,000 from the issue of 26.5 million new ordinary and registered shares.
