Germany-based Dimension-Polyant, the world’s largest sailcloth producer, has introduced the X-Pac VX21 Ocean Edition (OE), a fully sustainable version of its waterproof laminate for packs and bags. This launch is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to transition to more environmentally friendly materials.
The X-Pac VX21 OE is a four-layer laminate with a face fabric made from 100 percent recycled Regen Ocean nylon, sourced from discarded fishing nets, by Hyosung. This material is reinforced with Dimension-Polyant’s patented X-Ply fiber technology, also made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled PET. The laminate includes a lightweight taffeta backing, enhancing stitch durability, and is produced in Dimension-Polyant’s carbon-neutral facility.
Taylor North, Head of Technical Fabrics at Dimension-Polyant US, emphasized the importance of maintaining the brand’s reputation for durability while adopting sustainable materials. North highlighted that the recycled materials used meet their stringent standards for performance and sustainability.
Hyosung TNC, the provider of regen Ocean nylon, conducted a Life Cycle Assessment revealing significant environmental benefits: a 73 percent reduction in CO2 emissions, a 76 percent decrease in fossil resource use, and a 98 percent cut in water consumption compared to conventional nylon production.
The X-Pac VX21 OE, part of Dimension-Polyant’s cleenTEC line, guarantees 100 percent climate neutrality through recycled or bio-based components and carbon offsets. Dimension-Polyant collaborates with ClimatePartner to calculate and offset the carbon footprint of each cleenTEC fabric.
The new laminate will be showcased at Performance Days Munich on Oct. 23–24, 2024.
