Sport England has announced a £120 million (€142.5m) investment to increase participation and boost diversity in sports. The funding is meant to enhance opportunities for talented young athletes in England to develop their athletic potential, regardless of their background or financial circumstances. The investment will support grassroots environments as well as formal high-performance sports programs and will be available from 2025 to 2029.

The funding is being delivered by Sport England’s existing partnerships with more than 70 sports organizations, including the ”Backing the Best” program run by SportsAid, supported by a further £1.5 million (€1.8m) from National Lottery funding.

Sport England is a non-departmental government body that works through a combination of National Lottery funding and grant-in-aid from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. About two-thirds of its funding comes from lottery players.
