Aleksander Ceferin, the current UEFA president, is set to be re-elected as he has emerged as the only candidate for the role, the organization has announced. Presidential elections at the European football governing body are scheduled to take place at its congress in April. Ceferin, 55, is standing for a third term. He was first elected UEFA president in 2016 at an extraordinary congress in Athens to replace Michel Platini, who was forced to leave the organization in connection with an allegedly disloyal payment of US$2 million he received from then FIFA president Sepp Blatter in 2011. Between 2011 and 2016, Ceferin was the president of the Slovenian football association.
