From May 28 to June 8, the Adidas x Parley #RunForTheOceans will take place for the fourth time, continuing its commitment to combat plastic pollution of the oceans. Runners around the world are encouraged to join the challenge on the Adidas Running App and run, walk or wheelchair to help end plastic waste. For every kilometer tracked in the Adidas Running App (Strava/Joyrun) from May 28 to June 8, Adidas and Parley will clean up the equivalent of the weight of 10 plastic bottles, up to a maximum of 227,000 kilograms of ocean plastic waste from beaches, remote islands and coastlines.

To date, Adidas and Run For The Oceans have brought together more than 3 million runners worldwide who have collectively walked 25.5 million miles and raised $2.5 million to help Parley develop its initiatives and educational programs in the fight against ocean plastic pollution. In 2019, 92 schools signed up for the program and are now both education centers and plastic collection stations for the local community. A total of 70,000 children and their families participated in the program.
Since 2015, Adidas has produced more than 30 million pairs of shoes using Parley Ocean Plastic, plastic waste that is intercepted on beaches and in coastal communities. But while progress has been made toward a more sustainable future, there is still much to be done to reduce plastic pollution in the oceans.
This is just the beginning of the global initiative Adidas announced last March as part of its “Own the Game” strategy: In the near future, Run For The Oceans will expand even further to create a more inclusive digital and physical community space. By 2025, Adidas aims to reach cumulative participation by 40 million people.
