Garmin has instituted a program for retailers called “Garmin Ready.” The idea is to label e-bikes with that very phrase so as to inform prospective customers that the bikes are set up for wireless data exchange with a Garmin device, such as a GPS or smart-watch, and can display things like battery life and range.
In time, Garmin will be expanding the program to other wireless protocols, such as Advanced and Adaptive Network Technology (ANT), which is designed to reduce power use; it’s even more energy-efficient variant, ANT+; and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
The brand’s selling point is as follows: “The value of leveraging Garmin devices doesn’t have to stop with displaying data. You can take advantage of this Garmin Ready program to enhance your product features through their compatibility with select Garmin products.”
Sports gear companies can request a compatibility assessment through the Garmin website. The “Garmin Ready” label is available for use on websites, marketing materials, social media and product packaging as well.
