Golf numbers in the U.K. are on the rise. According to Sports Marketing Surveys (SMS), the number of golf rounds played in the country in the third quarter of 2014 were up by 5.3 percent compared with the same quarter in 2013. The increase, as described in the latest edition of SMS' annual Golf Rounds Played study, was registered despite the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in late July and August, which had an adverse effect on the amount of golf played in Scotland. Scotland itself quickly recovered, with a rise in the amount of golf rounds being played in August, possibly driven by the buzz of the Ryder Cup in the region in the following month. September 2014 was dry, with pleasant temperatures, and the amount of golf played in September was up by 12.2 percent against September 2013. The rate of increase on an annualized basis was 3.3 percent.
