Hardly a week goes by without a Decathlon store opening, and the latest batch includes its expansion in three relatively small markets. The French retailer opened a store in Maribor earlier this month, its second in Slovenia after Ljubljana last year. Another opening occurred in Romania, where Decathlon has been operating since 2009. It has 20 stores in the country after an opening in a shopping center in the northeastern city of Botosani. Decathlon reportedly managed sales of 613 million Romanian lei (€134.3m-$156.9m) in the country last year, up by 49 percent, while profit doubled to RON 31.5 million (€6.9m-$8.1m). Yet another store was inaugurated at the end of June on about 1,000 square meters in Tetouan, in northern Morocco. Decathlon already had six stores in the country and Moroccan newspapers report that it has plans to open more in Kenitra, Meknes and Agadir.
