In 2015, Ochsner Sport, the leading Swiss sports retailer that is part of the Deichmann Group, opened its first branch in Germany in Neu-Ulm. Two other German locations in Hamburg and Ludwigsburg followed. Then, in 2016, the company acquired a German sporting goods retail chain of 13 stores located for the most part in Bavaria, called Sport Sperk. Evidently, it was difficult for Ochsner Sport to establish its banner in the German sports market: Deichmann announced this month that the name Ochsner Sport will be withdrawn from the country. The current Ochsner Sport stores will in future operate under the more established Sport Sperk name. At the beginning of April, the Ochsner Sport store in Neu-Ulm already re-opened under the name Sport Sperk. The conversion of the stores in Hamburg and Ludwigsburg should be finalized by the end of 2019.
