Manchester United said its retail, merchandising apparel and product licensing revenues, which are managed by Nike, declined 4.4 percent to £9.1 million (€11.1m-$15.2m) in the second fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31, 2013. For the year to date, revenues were £19.8 million (€24.2m-$33.2m), up 4.8 percent. The agreement with Nike is set to expire at the end of the 2014-15 season and according to reports in the British media, the club has asked Adidas, Warrior and Puma to bid on the contract. Under the current licensing agreement, Nike is required to pay Manchester United a minimum of £303 million (€370.6m-$507.4m) over 13 years, plus half of annual profits from the club's merchandising and licensing operations, which include sales of the team strips. As part of the deal, Nike provides the team's soccer kits and runs its stores in England, India, Macau, Singapore and Thailand. Media reports speculate that the club management is now pushing for a new deal that would pay it $1 billion over 10 years.
