Mickey Chen, founder and chief executive of Kingmaker, died from wounds after being stabbed at one of the company's shoe factories in Vietnam, by a warehouse manager after he was questioned about missing inventory, according to a report in the Taipei Times. Chen founded Kingmaker in Taiwan in 1981 and opened its first factory in the Chinese mainland in Guangdong in 1988. The company, which went public in 1994, now operates plants in China, Vietnam and Cambodia, making about 23 million pairs of shoes annually for numerous brands including Asics, Cat, Clarks, New Balance, Robeez, Skechers and Stride Rite. Kingmaker's board has appointed Daniel Chan Ho Man as acting chairman and Phillip Brian Kimmel as acting CEO.
