Four new women’s events have been added to the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, leading to a record number of women’s events. There will be 50 women’s events, up from 46 in Beijing in 2022. With 1,362 women competing, namely 47 percent of participants, Milano Cortina 2026 is set to become the most gender-balanced Olympic Winter Games edition to date, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said.

The IOC Executive Board has approved the program of Milano Cortina 2026 based on the recommendations of the Olympic Programme Commission, which assessed the proposals from the International Federations. The framework of the Milano Cortina 2026 event program and athlete quota reflects the Olympic Charter, Olympic Agenda 2020+5 and four fundamental program principles established by the IOC Executive Board on June 10, 2021: maintaining the overall athlete quota of 2,900; achieving gender-equal participation across the Olympic Winter Games at event and discipline level where possible; prioritizing new events that accommodate athletes within the sport’s existing quota allocation; and allowing new events only if they do not require additional Games venues.
