KMD Brands has recruited a director with a track record of business transformation rather than a generalist board veteran, a choice that lines up with the chair’s statement that the group continues to evaluate options to accelerate shareholder value.
KMD Brands has appointed Ian Morrice as an independent, non-executive director effective Aug. 20, the company said July 7. The move follows a board renewal process the ASX/NZX-listed outdoor and lifestyle group announced in May.
Morrice brings more than 30 years of senior retail, consumer and wholesale experience across New Zealand, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. He previously served as group chief executive of Australian wholesale distributor Metcash and, before that, as chief executive of New Zealand retailer The Warehouse Group, where he led a business transformation and organizational restructuring.

His appointment comes as KMD Brands, owner of Kathmandu, Rip Curl and Oboz, advances what it calls its Next Level strategy.
Under the company’s constitution and NZX listing rules, Morrice will serve only until KMD Brands’ next annual shareholders’ meeting, at which point he must resign and stand for election by shareholders.
