Callum Skinner, the British former track cyclist and Olympic medalist, is launching special sunglasses that allow cyclists to see also behind them. The glasses were invented by a physicist, Alexander Macdonald, developed with Skinner and designed by Bob Henderson, an award-winning optical engineer, after raising more than £100,000 (€115,35-$139,25) via a Kickstarter campaign. Skinner and Macdonald co-founded HindSight, a company of which Macdonald is the CEO. Riders can see forwards and backwards by shifting focus and without having to turn their head, thanks to the two-part angled lenses with semi-transparent mirrors in the specs. The patent-pending lens technology is supposed to make amateur and urban cycling safer. The HindSight Edge range comprises three sunglass-style models suitable for daytime use. The first drop is scheduled for March 2021. Skinner earned a silver medal in the individual sprint at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and a gold medal as a member of the British squad that won in the team sprint.
