Decathon has signed its first partnership with an American sports league, the National Basketball Association (NBA). Through this multi-year merchandising deal, the big French-based sporting goods retailer will become the NBA’s official licensee in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. Decathlon will be developing NBA team and league-branded base layers, accessories and (in certain markets) footwear to sell under its four-year-old basketball brand, Tarmak. The collection will be sold exclusively at some 1,200 Decathlon stores worldwide and online at Early orders will open in March with the store launch to follow in April.
