For the fifth year in a row, Moncler Group maintains the top rank in the “Textiles, Apparel & Luxury Goods” segment in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices World and Europe. The company obtained the highest score (89/100) as of Dec. 8, 2023.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) measure the performance of companies selected with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance & Economic) criteria. Among the group’s achievements, around 90 percent of the electricity used at its own directly operated corporate sites worldwide (production sites, offices, logistics hubs, and stores) came from renewable sources in 2022 (estimated for 2023: 100 percent). Since 2021, carbon neutrality has been maintained at its own directly operated corporate sites. Almost all single-use virgin plastic has been eliminated, claims the company, while 100 percent of nylon scraps from own direct sites are recycled. Continued energy assessment programs have been in place to support key suppliers in defining an energy efficiency strategy. In 2022, 69 percent of Moncler Group’s workforce was made up of women, and women also represented more than half of the company’s management (51 percent).
Every year, Moncler reports on its sustainability performances and targets. The group’s “Strategic Sustainability Plan 2020-2025” focuses on five strategic drivers: Climate action, circular economy, fair sourcing, enhancing diversity, and giving back to local communities. The plan includes the commitment to reach Net Zero by 2050, the use in the collections of 50 percent of fabrics and yarns from lower impact materials by 2025 (recycled, organic or from regenerative agriculture, or certified following specific standards), the recycling of nylon production fabric scraps at group sites and supply chain. Furthermore, the plan aims to trace raw materials, continuously improve social and environmental standards throughout the supply chain, and organize internal and external awareness-raising initiatives to foster diversity while promoting an inclusive culture.
The constituents for any DJSI index are selected based on a company’s S&P Global CSA Score, calculated under the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). The CSA process begins in April each year, with new scores released from September onwards. Over 13,000 companies are invited to participate in the CSA annually, but only 3,500 are eligible for inclusion in any DJSI.
