Puma has introduced what it describes as the lightest football jersey in the company’s history, weighing in at 72 grams. Called dryCELL, it is made of what the German company calls Ultraweave, whose two-dimensional ripstop structure combines recycled polyester, pattern construction and trimmings to produce a stretch in four directions. According to Puma’s creative director for teamsport, Stefano Favaro, Ultraweave was four years in the making. There is a new technique for logo printing as well. The Italian Men’s National Team gave the jersey its first field trial on Oct. 6, during the Nations League semi-final match against Spain. It will briefly be exclusive to Italy’s Nations League matches, but later this month it will be worn by Italy’s Women’s National Team as well. It is already on sale through Puma’s online shop, through the online shops of the Italian football federation (FIGC) and at specialist shops worldwide.
