Vans describes its new ad campaign, “These Projects Are Ads for Creativity,” as “artist-first.” The skate shoe brand is encouraging its designers and others to “go out and make things – drawings, sculptures, music videos, custom shoes, digital animations, and much more” – and will display them for the next year as a “digital hub of art projects” on Vans.com/offthewall. So far, the artists include Rewina Beshue of San Francisco, Anthony Acosta of Los Angeles and Start From Zero of Hong Kong. “Instead of creating advertising that talks about creativity,” says Rob Teague, global executive creative director, “we wanted to use this campaign as a vehicle to showcase true, physical creativity in all of its forms. So we simply enabled creatives all over the world to make things.” Vans is owned by VF Corp.
