Vans has introduced the Circle Vee, a new silhouette that taps into renewable materials while aiming at reducing waste. The Circle Vee features a one-piece knitted natural upper designed to reduce waste in production compared to Vans’ traditional cut and sew uppers. The upper, which is stitched directly onto the outsole, is 48 percent organic cotton, 47 percent hemp and 5 percent nylon. The laces are made from 100 percent jute fibers. The outsole of the Circle Vee is made from an all-new rubber compound that utilizes natural rubber instead of petroleum-derived synthetic rubber and is obtained from sources that follow proven sustainable practices, the brand claims.
The Circle Vee is meant to further reinforce Vans’ commitment to reducing its environmental impact, as also previously described by SGI Europe. The brand’s overall CSR goals and the steps that the brand is taking to get there are outlined at Vans.com/Sustainability. To support and protect the world’s oceans, Vans will be giving $1 for every Circle Vee product sold to the Tides Foundation, with a minimum of $25,000 to be donated.
