Decathlon has introduced its first self-checkout lanes in Russia at its Altufyevo store in Moscow and plans to expand the use of the system to other locations. The company has already installed its “Scan & Go” system, which allows customers to scan the items and to pay for them with their mobile phones, at many stores in France and other countries. With the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic gaining momentum in Russia, nearly 40 percent of customers opt for this kind of service, the company has estimated. Several other Russian retailers have resorted to self-checkout technologies during the past few months, both in the food and non-food segment. One important benefit is that it significantly cuts the length of the queues when customer traffic is high.
