The 2024 holiday shopping season marked a notable increase in the integration of omnichannel retail strategies, particularly through Buy Online, Pick-Up In-Store (BOPIS) and Reserve Online, Pick-Up In-Store (ROPIS). According to data from Locally, which gathers real-time insights from over 55,000 retailers globally, there was a significant 7.5% year-over-year growth in the use of these services.

The shift towards omnichannel convenience

According to Locally, consumers are increasingly valuing the convenience that omnichannel strategies provide. Data reveals that nearly 50 percent of online shoppers would abandon their carts if a local pickup option wasn’t available, highlighting the critical role of BOPIS and ROPIS in modern retail. This trend is further supported by the bike industry, which saw an 11 percent increase in same-store BOPIS transactions, indicating a strong consumer preference for immediate, accessible service.

Locally predicts that over 90 percent of leading retailers will adopt these approaches by 2025. Its data underscores the effectiveness of these strategies in meeting consumer demand for a seamless shopping experience that bridges the gap between online browsing and offline purchasing.

Besides retailers like REI, Locally collaborates with brands such as Hoka, Brooks, Asics and Black Diamond.
