Spanish retailer Sprinter has hit the sweet spot, its Retail Director, César Cuadrillero, tells Diffusion Sport in an interview published this month.
The company is on course to meet its objective of 15 store openings by the end of December and “in an optimal situation to face the immediate future,” Cuadrillero says. Next year should be even more expansive, with 20 openings planned.
The chain is focusing on the autonomous communities of Madrid, Catalonia, Extremadura and Castilla - La Mancha. Management believes in the potential of the rest of Spain as well. A reopening is scheduled for Valladolid and a store expansion through relocation in Marineda City.
All of Sprinter’s store properties are rentals. Sprinter has no plans to introduce new store formats, considering that the current format is yielding solid results.
Cuadrillero declines to disclose revenues but qualifies the year’s first half as “strictly following” the company’s objectives. Sprinter will be sticking to plan for the second half, “which is a critical period every year.” The best sign of Sprinter’s success, he adds, is the opening of the 15 stores this year and the 20 next.
In all, says Cuadrillero, Sprinter is operating with 144,067 square meters of retail space, or an average of about 700 square meters per store.
Sprinter sees its own brand as an entry point for the bottom of the market, leaving it up to other brands to offer more technical products.
As for categories, Sprinter will remain focused on football, running and fitness.
