Sales of snow sports equipment in the U.S. went well in the period from August to November 2011, according to a survey made by Leisure Trends Group for Snow Sports Industries of America, but the numbers were probably not so good afterwards due to a generalized lack of snow. In the five months through November, sales were up by 10 percent to $1.2 billion, with growth of 5 percent in volume. Inventories were looking good as of the end of November in specialty stores. Products that did particularly well include reverse and camber mixed skis, insulated parkas, ski mountaineering boots, winter boots and helmets. While figures are still being totaled for December, the lack of snow seems to have impacted sales in the U.S., both at retail and reorders from retailers. The governmental weather monitor says that from January to March, precipitation should be up in significant areas of the country, leading the SIA to be optimistic about the industry's figures for the current period.
