SportScheck is closing down its 5,500-square-meter store in Essen, considering that it was too big to operate. The German sporting goods retailer, which is pushing omni-channel retailing, will thus reduce the number of its stores to 19. It opened two new stores of half the size in Mönchengladbach and Aachen last year. The retail space in Essen is apparently getting expensive as Karstadt has decided to sell and lease back its head office in the city before opening a new department store in Berlin.
