Fitbit, part of Google, has launched the public preview of its AI Personal Health Coach, an assistant that combines Fitbit sensor data with Google’s expertise.
The Personal Health Coach was first introduced at Google I/O 2024. The tool uses generative AI models to provide personalized coaching on sleep, activity and recovery on the basis of real-time Fitbit and Pixel Watch data.
How it works
The AI coach analyses those metrics and their trends to offer actionable insights – for example, how to adjust training load or devise sleep recovery plans. It can also simulate “what if” scenarios to test how lifestyle changes might affect long-term health.
Initially available to Fitbit and Pixel Watch 3 users in the US through the Fitbit Labs program, the AI coach will gradually roll out to more markets in 2026.
Why it matters
This is the most significant integration yet between Fitbit’s wellness ecosystem and Google’s AI infrastructure, signalling a shift towards predictive and conversational fitness guidance rather than static data tracking. The launch puts Google in more direct competition with Apple Health, Samsung Health and Whoop, all of which are developing AI-driven wellness insights.
Fitbit currently has over 111 million devices sold globally. Google’s health AI initiatives include MedLM, Project Euphonia and the Fitbit Health Solutions platform for employers. Fitbit’s AI coach marks the next evolution in wearables – transforming them from data collectors into interactive health companions that adapt to individual needs in real time.
