The market for sports bicycles in China is estimated to have risen by 30-35 percent in 2012 to reach a level of between 6.9 and 7.2 billion yuan renmimbi (€821-857m - $1,133-1,183m). Similar growth occurred in the first six months of this year, according to leading brands and bike dealers polled by the organizers of the Asia Bike show in Beijing. Knut Jaeger, chairman of the fair, noted that average prices increased by about 40 percent, with a bigger share of imported products. He estimated that there are about 8,000 to 10,000 stores selling bicycles in China, and that 70 percent of them are mono-brand stores, but there should be more multi-brand dealers in the future. Jaeger's team will expand the research into the Chinese bike market prior to the October 2014 edition of the trade show.
