The share of branded shoes with a sports sole in the Russian footwear market reached 70 per cent in 2017, as compared to only 45 per cent several years ago, according to the Fashion Consulting Group. This trend is clear evidence that the women shoes with heels are rapidly losing popularity in the country. Noting that the trend started nearly three years ago, a representative of Tamaris reportedly indicated that the share of classical women's shoes shrank from 20-25 per cent in 2015 to only 10 to 15 per cent in 2016. According to a Russian fashion designer, Vladislav Lisovets, while women tend to wear sneakers and other comfortable casual shoes in Moscow, the demand with footwear with heels is still high in other parts of the country, but it will keep shrinking in the coming years as well. According to Lisovets, this trend could be temporary and heels may start recovering in three to four years from now.
