The Uvex group managed to increase its turnover significantly during its latest fiscal year, ended July 31. Sales jumped by 9 percent to €330 million. This came basically from a satisfactory economic environment in Germany where Uvex' sales of professional protective and safety equipment were up by 17 percent to €219 million. This unit represents some two-thirds of the group's turnover. The evolution of Uvex' sports unit – comprising the Uvex, Filtral and Alpina brands – was down though by 5 percent to €98 million. This was partially due to the ski helmet business, which is no longer as prominent as it was in the previous three winter seasons in Central Europe. The company does not expect a recovery during the upcoming snow sports season. For Alpina alone, sales were down by 4 percent from 2009-10, which was the brand's historical year with a turnover of nearly €40 million. For the current fiscal year Uvex expects stable sales at last year's level (more in EyeWear Intelligence).
