The volume of ski products sold to the trade fell by more than 20 percent for the 2012/13 season, according to figures collected by the Italian Ski Pool from all the major suppliers. The data show year-on-year declines of 21.17 to 173,837 pairs for skis, 22.1 percent to 171,464 pairs for ski bindings and 25.2 percent to 175,892 for ski boots. Even higher drops were recorded in terms of value. Sales of skis went down by 22.8 percent to €26,775,683, bindings down by 25.9 percent to €9,775,409 and ski boots down by 26.9 percent to €16,423,624. The organization listed among the factors destocking by retailers after the poor 2011/12 season, a shift to rentals and the possible end of the switch to a new generation of carving skis.
