The second strike in a few weeks at the Port of Felixstowe could put further strain on supply chains. The union called a nine-day strike on Tuesday Sept. 27. The Port of Felixstowe is the largest port in the U.K. Already last month, about 1,900 port employees participated in a first strike.
So far, an agreement is not in sight. According to the BBC, post union representative Phil Pemberton said: “After the first strike action that we took we asked the company to meet with us to see if we could resolve this through negotiation.” The union is demanding a pay increase to compensate for inflation, which currently stands at around 10 percent. The Port of Felixstowe employer is offering a 7 percent pay rise and a one-off payment of £500 (€557), according to the BBC.
