Spain and Portugal have added Ukraine to their joint bid to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The news, unveiled by The Times, was confirmed by the presidents of the three countries’ football federations at a joint press conference at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on Oct. 5.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) informed UEFA about their plan to include Ukraine in their World Cup bid and immediately received full support from Europe’s football governing body. The terms of Ukraine’s participation will be discussed and decided at a later stage. Ukraine previously co-organized the UEFA Euro 2012 with Poland, both first-time hosts at the time. The Spain/Portugal/Ukraine bid will compete against other joint bids, including Egypt, Greece and Saudi Arabia, as well as a bid from Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.
The next World Cup will take place later this year, from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18, in Qatar, while the 2026 tournament will take place in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
