Warm weather conditions, combined with a governmental decision to subsidize purchases of electric bicycles, resulted in an 11.4 percent increase in retail sales of sporting goods in Sweden during the month of September. The warm weather was good for segments like running and cycling, while sales of sneakers continued to be brisk. But the biggest reason for the increase was the government's decision to subsidize 25 percent of the cost of purchasing e-bikes. This created a real rush to bicycle stores and, with the subsidy, there were many who chose to buy a slightly more expensive model, with a direct effect on the entire segment's results.
