Swimwear brand Speedo has unveiled a new partnership with GB Deaf Swimming ahead of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.
Under the new agreement, Speedo will provide the British team of 11 athletes with performance kit and training essentials, including the latest Fastskin racing suits, training swimwear, caps, goggles, towels and bags.
The Deaflympics operates independently from the Olympics and Paralympics. Participation is open exclusively to persons who are deaf, defined as a hearing loss of at least 55dB in their better ear, and citizens of a nation that is a member of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). Competitors are not allowed to use hearing aids or external cochlear implant aids during any Deaflympics event. The first Deaflympics, known as the “International Silent Games,” were held in the summer of 1924 in Paris, while the first Winter Deaflympics were held in Austria in 1949.
“As a brand, Speedo is committed to ensuring no athlete is left behind when it comes to the very best performance in the pool, and initiatives like this sit at the heart of our brand values,” said Rob Ashcroft, Senior Vice President / Global Brand & Product Director at Speedo.
The 2025 Deaflympics will take place in Tokyo on November 15-26, marking the team’s first Games since 2017, where they won three gold and four bronze medals.
Speedo was born on Bondi Beach, Australia in 1928. Speedo is owned by Pentland Brands and distributed in more than 170 countries worldwide.
