Sport 2000 International has acquired a new licensee, the HV Group, in the island states of Mauritius and Madagascar, where it is planning to open seven specialist stores by 2026. Mauritius is to receive two large stores and three small ones, Madagascar will host two others of undisclosed size. The five-year deal takes effect this month. More than 25 million people live on the two islands, and many of them enjoy running and what Sport 2000 calls “fitness training.” Founded in 2001, with business lines in industry, international trade, property management and retail, the HV Group operates mainly on the two islands and elsewhere around the Indian Ocean. “This collaboration,” said Roupesh Hematlal, the HV Group’s CEO, “will allow us to be part of a strong, successful buying group,” as the company hopes to position itself as a “leading sports retail group.” Sport 2000 International is Europe’s second largest trade organization for independent sports retailers, with 3,615 stores in 22 countries. Its retail revenues for 2020 amounted to €4.3 billion.
