Gel Kayano 30

Asics this week unveiled the 30th generation of its Gel Kayano running shoe, which not only features new adaptive technology that provides “runners with exceptional stability and unprecedented comfort for the entire duration of a run “ but also comes with a carbon footprint labeling. The shoe, which goes on sale July 1, is the first of many Asics products to feature labeling indicating the total CO2e emissions generated during the product’s lifecycle.

According to its label, the carbon footprint of the new Gel Kayano 30 is 14 percent lower than the industry average, with a total of 10.7 kg CO2e per pair. This figure is made up of material-related emissions of 4.7 kg CO2e (total), manufacturing-related emissions of 4.7 kg CO2e (total), transport-related carbon emissions of 0.4 kg CO2e (total), process-related emissions (usage) of 0.03 kg CO2e (total) and disposal-related carbon emissions (end-of-life, including disposal, recycling of shoe packaging and disposal of materials during manufacturing) of 0.8 kg CO2e (total) per pair.
