Nike celebrated the fourth anniversary of its Black Community Commitment (BCC), a ten-year, $140 million investment to advance racial equity and help eradicate racism, with an event in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 21-22, called “Path to Progress.” During the event, Nike unveiled the “Nike Social & Community Impact Grantmaking Guide,” an open-source playbook for participatory philanthropy that aims to encourage other companies and funders to develop participatory grantmaking in their communities.
The BCC, backed by Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand, was announced by Nike in June 2020. Through the BCC, Nike has committed $8.6 million so far in its fiscal year 2024 to national and local organizations primarily focused in seven US cities: Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Memphis, New York City, Portland, Oregon and St. Louis. With the addition of its 2024 BCC grantees, Nike has supported more than 125 NGOs through the BCC and is on pace to fulfill its commitment of $40 million since its fiscal year 2021, said the company.
