After a few silent years, Eddy Merckx is making a comeback. The classic brand, created by the legendary Eddy Merckx in the early 1980s, established its own identity and has since sold frames and complete bicycles to both professionals and amateurs. Merckx himself sold his shares during the early 2000s to the Belgian Ridley’s holding company.

Now, after a period of quiet, the brand is making a resurgence. The new range was launched this week on the company’s new website, and Jochim Aerts, CEO of the Belgian Cycling Factory (producers of Ridley and Merckx bikes), stated earlier in the week: “Today is a great day for Eddy Merckx bikes, and by extension, the Belgian cycling industry. With this new push, we aim to solidify Eddy Merckx bike’s position in the top segment of road and gravel bikes and maintain it in the long term.”

Initially, there will be five official Merckx models available for sale, featuring different frames and materials. Through an online configurator, consumers can also create a custom configuration and choose a paint job. The bike models are named after places significant in the legendary cyclist’s career, including two road bikes, a gravel bike, and a hybrid. All bikes will be available as framesets or complete bikes with Sram and Shimano-equipped builds.
