New York Road Runners (NYRR), the non-profit that produces 60 annual adult and youth races in New York City, has released its newly commissioned Economic Impact Study and annual Impact Report. The FY25 Economic Impact Study shows that NYRR’s events contribute nearly $1 billion to the city’s economy. In 2024, the TCS New York City Marathon alone drove almost $700 million in spending. The FY25 Impact Report shows participation growth across NYRR’s year-round events, community programs, membership, fundraising, and volunteerism.

The FY25 Economic Impact study, conducted by Audience Research & Analysis with Appleseed, found that the 34 races that NYRR hosted between April 2024 and March 2025 injected $934 million in incremental spending into the local New York City economy, representing a 58 percent increase since the study was last conducted in FY20. New York Road Runners commissions an Economic Impact Study every five years. These events also created more than 5,000 jobs.

An increase of 7% per year in participants 

The FY25 Impact Report shows an increase of 7 percent year-over-year (YoY) in the total number of participants in NYRR events and programs to 668,505 people. NYRR membership increased 6.6 percent YoY. More than 25,000 volunteers dedicated over 150,000 hours to NYRR events and programs. Virtual racing also shows growth, with NYRR Virtual Racing Powered by Strava growing to 55,400 unique participants from 150 countries across 10 virtual races.
