In financial-year 2022, according to Spain’s Mercantile Register (as reported by CMDsport), Decathlon Spain generated sales of €1.869 billion (VAT excluded), 3.57 percent more than the €1.804 billion in the previous year. This is the highest total since 2018.

The chain’s sales have been rising overall since 2018. There was only a single year in this period, FY 2020, which saw a year-on-year drop of 10.66 percent, from €1.708 to €1.526 billion.

After-tax profits again surpassed the threshold of €100 million after three years of shortfalls, reaching €100.03 million, or 3.47 percent more than the €96.67 million of FY 2021. The figure for FY 2019 was €104.07 million.

Taxes on earnings for FY 2022 amounted to €33.07 million, up 0.42 percent year-on-year. FY 2019, with its maximal after-tax profits, had the company’s highest tax on earnings, at €38.81 million.

Meanwhile, social-security contributions for FY 2022 amounted to €67.15 million, up 9.55 percent year-on-year. These were the highest since 2018.

The chain employed 11,901 people last year, slightly less than in 2021 (11,910).

Decathlon Spain opened its first store – in the Montigalá district of Badalona – in 1992, some 30 years ago. By the end of FY 2022, it was operating 175 stores, an e-commerce shop and seven logistical hubs.
