Philippe Diallo, interim president of the French Football Federation (FFF), and Jean-Michel Aulas, member of the FFF executive committee and the owner of French football club Olympic Lyonnais, presented on April 13 a new plan to promote elite women’s football in the country. The budget that the FFF allocates to women’s football is set to increase by 20-25 percent, which means an additional investment of between €4 million and €5 million. All the players in the women’s clubs in the first and second divisions will acquire professional status. In addition, a new professional women’s football league will operate within the FFF itself as of July 1, 2024. The FFF has described the new plan as “an exceptional and historical commitment.” The France women’s football team is the 5th best national team in the world, according to the latest FIFA Ranking, after the U.S., Germany, Sweden and England.
