Jason Whitson and Tommy Fad, the founders of Gritness, have confirmed on their own website that their search engine for group fitness activities has been sold to Under Armour (UA). The idea behind Gritness, launched in June 2013 in Austin, Texas, was to stimulate group fitness by creating a digital resource where fitness enthusiasts could find or organize events. Mobi Health News revealed the takeover earlier this month. The Gritness website is currently inactive, stating that it has been acquired by UA and that it will be undergoing some changes during its transition to the Under Armour Connected Fitness platform. In their short message, the founders add that they will shut down their site and mobile apps, and invite users to download the relevant UA apps. UA has been very active in acquiring digital fitness companies in the last two years. It snapped up MapMyFitness in November 2013 and went on to acquire MyFitnessPal and Endomondo in February 2015.
