The FIFA’s president’s desire for more power, influence and revenue does not seem to stop after the World Cup in Qatar. According to an exclusive report by The Daily Mail, Gianni Infantino would like the FIFA World Cup to be held every three years instead of the current four. No change is possible, however, until after the 2030 World Cup, explains the report, since talks between stakeholders regarding the 2024 to 2030 calendar are close to being concluded. Infantino recently announced an expanded men’s Club World Cup starting in 2025, as also reported by SGI Europe. FIFA’s top executive, emboldened by the success of Qatar 2022, is now seeing the atypical winter World Cup as a game-changer and evidence that football can continue to expand further and get even more globalized, according to the report. FIFA earned record revenues of $7.5 billion through the four years of commercial deals tied to the 2022 Qatar World Cup, $1 billion more than from the previous World Cup cycle leading up to the 2018 tournament in Russia.
