New Balance has initiated a new resale program, allowing customers to browse and purchase pre-owned goods from the brand online. Dubbed “Reconsidered,” the program aims to enable customers to trade in their gently worn shoes via mail or in-store drop-offs in exchange for a voucher to use toward their next branded purchase.

In a press release, John Stokes, director of sustainability at New Balance, acknowledges the significant environmental impact of the footwear industry, including the excessive disposal of products in landfills. “There are many things that have to shift. Launching Reconsidered is one piece of the puzzle with a program objective to help extend product life for some of our products and get the most from what is already made.”

New Balance has collaborated with Archive to develop the necessary technology, while the submitted shoes are cleaned and restored by Tersus Solutions. Initially available only to American customers, the program aims to expand throughout the year.
