Nike has published Breaking Barriers - FY21 Nike Inc. Impact Report, which marks the company’s 20th year of reporting its corporate social responsibility (CSR) progress. According to the new report, Nike is on track with the majority of its 29 targets for 2025 and expects to keep all targets on track in the 2022 fiscal year. Since last year, the amount of women in the group in leadership roles has increased by nearly four percentage points to 43 percent globally, while the amount of U.S. racial and ethnic minorities at director level and above has grown by more than four percentage points to 30.3 percent. Also in FY21, 100 percent of Nike’s manufacturing scrap at its finished goods footwear suppliers was diverted from landfills through increased recycling. After a reminder of the company’s 2025 goals, the 184-page report details Nike’s fiscal 2021 achievements in People, Foundational Expectations, Play and Planet. In response to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, and despite that crisis, which also affected the company, Nike boosted its community efforts, within the Play action area, around the world. The company invested $97.7 million — which represented 3.4 percent of its prior year’s pre-tax income — in equal, inclusive and active communities. This figure far exceeded not only its FY20 target of 1.5 percent of pre-tax income but also the company’s 2025 target of 2 percent investment, Nike highlighted.
