Nine leading sports brands worked together to supply free competition gear to hundreds of athletes at the Rio Olympics, under the first NOC Competition Uniform Support Programme. As described earlier this year, the partnership led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) and the brands aims to support national Olympic Committees (NOCs) and athletes who do not have sponsors for the event. The WFSGI said in July that the program would support about 620 athletes and 54 NOCs, but at the reception organized for the participants this week it turned out that it reached 69 NOCs. The participating brands sometimes worked together to supply all athletes from one particular NOC. The nine brands are Adidas, Arena, Asics, Nike, Orca, Puma, Mizuno, Speedo and Under Armour. They worked together with the NOCs for several months to get the uniforms designed, developed and delivered to the athletes in the Olympic Village.
